How Do Impact Windows Maximize Energy Efficiency?

Glass Thickness

The minimum thickness of your windows is determined by building code, but once the minimum thickness is met, we can provide you with a number of options that exceed it.  Glass thickness is not as important as glazing, insulation, or low emissivity options when it comes to thermal control, but it does play a role.  However, it is a much more critical factor in terms of noise reduction.  If you live in a busy neighborhood, for example, thicker glass is definitely preferable.

Insulated Glass

Insulated glass refers to two panes of glass that have air or another inert gas (like argon) sandwiched between them.  It’s an extremely effective way to reduce energy transfer through your windows, due to the fact that air is a very effective insulator.

Low Emissivity Options

Low emissivity (Low-E) windows are created when the glass is coated in a material that lowers the amount of infrared (or ‘heat’) energy that is transferred through your windows. When your windows or doors are exposed to heat and light, they can either reflect that energy or allow it to be transferred from one side to the other. Low-E coatings ensure that your windows and doors are reflecting, rather than absorbing that energy.  Low-E coatings are virtually invisible, and are thinner than a human hair—but they allow you to maintain your indoor temperature while saving on energy costs.

UV Ray Reduction
